English Language and American Culture Certificate
A certificate in English Language and American Culture consists of 18 semester hours of credit in ELAC course work and indicates the equivalent levels of language study successfully completed at the University. A grade of “C” or better or "S" is required in each of the courses selected to satisfy the certificate program.
Certificate Requirements
For certification of language proficiency at a particular level, the following core courses are required:
Level I:
ELAC 201 | Level 1 Interpersonal Speaking and Listening | 4 |
ELAC 202 | Level 1 Interpersonal Reading and Vocabulary | 4 |
ELAC 203 | Level 1 Interpersonal Writing and Grammar | 4 |
Two of the following:
ELAC 210 | Campus and Community for Learners of Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills | 3 |
ELAC 220 | American Academic Literacy for Learners of Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills | 3 |
ELAC 230 | English for Specific Purposes for Learners of Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills | 1 to 3 |
Level II:

ELAC 230 or ELAC 430: must be taken for a minimum of three hours per level to meet the certificate requirements.
