Admission to the University:
Students interested in pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree must first apply to the University and be accepted into the University on the basis of the admission-eligibility policy or the admission-eligibility-transfer students’ policy. Once accepted into the University based on one of the admission policies approved by the Department of Nursing, students are eligible for acceptance into the nursing program and seniors in high school may seek the status of Early Assurance into the Nursing Program.

Early Assurance into the Nursing Program:
Students interested in applying for Early Assurance into the Nursing Program will need to complete the early assurance application. High school seniors may receive the admission status of Early Assurance if the following criteria are met:

  1. Obtain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.4 in high school;
  2. Complete a minimum of 3 years of high school math, including algebra;
  3. Complete a minimum of 3 years of high school science, including biology and chemistry.

Students who been granted Early Assurance into the Nursing Program are expected to successfully complete the prerequisite coursework for acceptance into the Nursing Program. A student admitted under this admission status who does not successfully complete the Nursing Program prerequisite requirements within the first three semesters (for a traditional 4-year program) or within one semester (for a 3-year program with College Credit Plus [CCP] credit), will forfeit their Early Assurance seat.

Upon admission to the University, students may declare the major of nursing and schedule courses to complete the nursing prerequisites. After admission to and enrollment in the University, students will need to be formally accepted into the Nursing Program. All students (including transfer students) will be considered for acceptance into the Nursing Program by the Department of Nursing on a competitive basis. Students applying to Nursing Program may not transfer courses from other institutions to meet the requirements of nursing courses.

Advanced Placement:
Advanced placement and/or credit may not be earned through placement examination toward nursing course credit (i.e., designated NURS courses).

Review of Military Education and Skills Training Policy:
The Chair of the Department of Nursing along with the Dean of the College of Health Professions will collaborate with the Office of the Registrar to review and approve any potential nursing course credit. Credit may be awarded in areas that are substantially equivalent to the Nursing Program curriculum, and the Department of Nursing and the University’s Credit for Service in the Armed Forces policy.

CRITERIA FOR ACCEPTANCE INTO THE NURSING PROGRAM
Acceptance to the Nursing Program is competitive with priority given to students admitted to The University of Findlay with the admission status of Early Assurance into the Nursing Program. Health records will be shared between Cosiano Health Center and the Department of Nursing at the direction of the nursing student, as necessary for nursing student files to be eligible to complete their clinical experience.
