An advanced examination of the therapeutic use of self, personal values and communication styles within the context of clinical practice. The communication skills needed to most effectively intervene with those living with a disability and individuals dealing with the dying process are discussed. The relationship between client-centered care and attention to culture is explored. Students identify their own cultures and analyze their influences on their own behaviors as the first step toward developing cultural competence. Developing cultural competency as it relates to providing occupational therapy services to diverse individuals and populations is a primary focus.
