Bachelor’s Degree Requirements

A baccalaureate degree from the University is a structured program of study for at least 124 semester hours of credit which consists of CORE+ Curriculum for General Education and major requirements, and possibly elective courses depending on the student's course of study. Baccalaureate students may choose from multiple majors, minors, endorsements, and/or certificates. A baccalaureate course of study enables students to explore focused subject areas in considerable depth that correlate to diverse career and/or educational paths. To be eligible for a bachelor’s degree, the following requirements must be met:

1. Successful completion of 124 semester hours of credit with an overall 2.00 grade point average; (ACAD 088, EDUC 088, and developmental courses may not be included in this 124 semester hours; see the section on Developmental Courses for more information);
2. Successful completion of a regularly established baccalaureate major;
   
   While not the only component of a college education, the baccalaureate major (36 to 75 semester hours of pre-approved course work) is a declared course of study defined by an academic unit which enables students to explore a focused subject area in considerable depth, as a complement to the breadth to be gained through the CORE+ Curriculum for General Education requirements. While a baccalaureate major can correlate to diverse career paths, it does not necessarily define a career path; rather, a baccalaureate major requires students to master the modes of inquiry, critical thinking, analysis, and communication within a discipline or interdisciplinary field;
   
   No student can be required to take more than 48 semester hours in a single discipline;
   
   Any deviation from the baccalaureate major range of 36 to 75 semester hours and/or the 48 semester hours within a single discipline rule has to meet with faculty approval. The exceptions to these expectations will be granted based on accreditation or licensure requirements necessitating additional credits or benchmarking/best practices and/or accreditation necessitating more hours to reach learning outcomes;
   
   At least 12 semester hours of upper-level courses in a major must be completed at The University of Findlay;
3. Successful completion of the CORE+ Curriculum for General Education for a baccalaureate degree;
   1. At least 42 semester hours of approved courses as indicated within the following outcomes for at least 3 semester hours in each CORE+ outcome. Some of the courses selected to meet CORE outcomes may require the completion of a course prerequisite (see C2 and O2 examples). Students should refer to the selected course's description to determine if a course prerequisite is required prior to enrolling in the course selected to meet the outcome.
      
      The C, O, R, and E outcomes will be waived for those students who have earned an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree from an institution within the University Systems of Ohio.
      
      Critical Thinking Skills - Outcomes
      
      C1: Students will use scientific inquiry to interpret data, solve problems, or draw conclusions.
      
      C2: Students will use methods in mathematics, statistics, or logic to interpret data, solve problems, and draw conclusions. MATH 110 or its equivalent is prerequisite for courses in this Outcome.
      
      C3: Students will apply relevant terms, concepts, and histories to critically analyze political, social, religious, philosophical, or economical systems.
      
      Oral and Written Communication Skills - Outcomes
      
      O1: Students will demonstrate oral communication skills for a variety of workplaces and disciplines.
      
      O2: Students will evaluate information for reliability and legitimacy, and demonstrate rhetorical skills in written texts for academic and professional environments. ENGL 104 and ENGL 106, or their equivalents, are prerequisites for courses in this Outcome.
      
      O3: Students will demonstrate competency in broadly applicable current technologies.
      
      Relationships with the World - Outcomes
      
      R1: Students will identify the similarities and differences among individuals, groups, societies, and/or languages to apply and integrate these multicultural perspectives for interaction in a diverse world.
      
      R2: Student will evaluate relationships between humans and the natural world and demonstrate responsible stewardship of natural resources.
      
      R3: Students will apply principles of value and civic duty in a wide range of settings, including their relationship to local and global communities and the social, political, and cultural issues therein.
      
      Engagement for Meaningful Lives and Productive Careers - Outcomes
      
      E1: Students will evaluate questions of meaning, faith, and vocation in light of enduring religious and philosophical texts and traditions.
      
      E2: Students will articulate and defend aesthetic arguments or craft expressive work within larger historical or modern contexts.
      
      E3: CORE Elective. Students will demonstrate the disposition of UF graduate to pursue meaningful lives and productive careers by completing any additional three-semester hour 100- or 200-level CORE-approved course from the 11 CORE Outcomes listed above.
      
      Oiler Six Outcomes - 6 Additional Hours of Approved Upper- or Lower-level CORE+ Courses
      
      U1: Students will engage in reflective summative study in a capstone course, and/or engage in on- or off-campus experiential learning (undergraduate research, service learning, internships, study abroad), for three to six semester hours of coursework,
      
      U2: and, for no more than three semester hours, students will:
      
      • perform or create original expressive work, OR
      • articulate models promoting lifelong learning and wellbeing, OR
      • complete an additional CORE Elective (e.g., E3).
   
   
   2. Participation in required assessment activities as determined by the faculty.
   3. Students entering The University of Findlay as first-time, full-time students must complete ACAD 125, ACAD 190, ANSC 110, ANHS 150, BIOL 110, BUAD 101, CSCI 110, EDUC 088, EQST 100, ESOH 110, or PHAR 150 during their first semester of enrollment. Students entering the institution with an undeclared major will complete this bachelor's degree requirement with ACAD 125. An international student enrolled in the IELP Program must register for his/her respective college or academic program's course once he/she has reached the intermediate-level of the IELP Program.
4. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours at an accredited four-year college, of which 30 semester hours must be taken at The University of Findlay;
5. Application of not more than 20 semester hours of “D+,” “D,” and “D-” grades toward a degree and at least a “C” grade in the major/minor;
6. Successful completion of at least 30 semester hours of upper-level courses (300 or above);
7. Application of not more than 30 semester hours obtained by one or any combination of the following toward a degree: International Baccalaureate Organization’s Diploma Program, proficiency examinations, portfolio credit, advanced placement credit, Cambridge International AS Level and A Level Programs, or transfer of extension and/or correspondence credit;
8. Participation in graduation exercises unless excused by the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs for a reason beyond the candidate’s control;
9. Application of not more than 15 semester hours of the Community and Urban Field Experiences Program;
10. If course work is transferred to The University of Findlay; successful completion of no less than 50 percent of the hours required in the major must be completed at UF for a bachelor’s degree.

* IMPORTANT NOTE: Courses within a major may count toward the 36-semester-hour general education requirements. However, courses may not be double counted within the general education requirements.
