ASLA 455 Zoo Husbandry and Care

In this course, students will learn how to care for a variety of mammals, birds, and reptiles in a zoo setting including proper handling, husbandry, management, and enrichment. Students will also learn about zoo involvement in research and community education and assist in these projects, as well as learn from specialists in the conservation and care of specific species. Through a combination of lecture, lab, and vet and keeper shadowing, students will get the full experience of working at modern zoos. The course is repeatable with a maximum of 9 total credits provided the topics are unique.
