HIST 285 Philosophy of History

This course will examine the nature of history and how we understand the past. In the course, we will ask the following questions: Are there patterns to history? What is the difference between memory and history? What causes change over time? Is history moving in a certain direction? How does historical knowledge (or the lack thereof) affect individual lives and societies today?
