English Core Courses

The English major allows students to select an emphasis that fits their interests and future plans. Regardless of emphasis, the English major requires students to take the English major core and courses within a selected emphasis.

The following core courses are required for all four-year programs in English:

(Notes: When ENGL 202, ENGL 272, ENGL 282, ENGL 292, ENGL 295, or ENGL 296 is counted toward the English major, it cannot count for second writing course credit. Also, students pursuing the teaching emphasis should work closely with their advisers and the chair of English when selecting core and emphasis courses).
