Courses and Credits

Transfer of Credits

Students pursuing a master’s degree at The University of Findlay may transfer up to 12 semester hours of credit (completed with a grade of “B-” or better) for graduate work completed at an accredited institution toward a master’s degree. Any transfer of credit in excess of 12 semester hours must be reviewed by the program’s director and approved by the Graduate Student Academic Standards Committee. The Master of Science in Environmental, Safety and Health Management accepts up to nine semester hours of transfer credit with the approval of the program director. In rare cases when students have taken ESL Methodology courses at other institutions, the TESOL master’s program may transfer in a maximum of nine credit hours. For all other TESOL students, the maximum number of transferable hours is six.

Students pursuing a Doctor of Education degree at The University of Findlay may transfer up to 15 semester hours of credit (completed with a grade of “B-” or better) into one of the program’s elective strands for graduate work completed at another institution as long as the credit is equivalent to doctorate-level education courses offered in the chosen strand or if the coursework was completed at the master’s level and was not used to meet the student’s master-degree requirements.

Students, who are licensed Ohio school psychologists and have completed Ohio practicum and Ohio internship courses, pursuing a Doctor of Education in School Psychology degree at The University of Findlay may transfer up to 24 semester hours of credit in place of the required school psychology practicum and internship courses (EDPY 610, EDPY 614, EDPY 620, EDPY 622, EDPY 624). These courses are considered completed as long as the candidate holds a current Ohio school psychology license.

See the Degree Time Limit section of this catalog for time and completion policies.

For domestic students, transfer credit is normally granted when courses taken at a post-secondary institution accredited by an approved accrediting agency including MSCHE, NEASC-CIHE, NEASC-CTCI, NCA-HLC, NWCCU, SACS, WASC-ACCJC, and WASC-ACSCU are completed with a verifiable grade of “B-” or better.

For international students, transfer credit is normally granted when courses taken at an approved, as defined by the appropriate governmental body in the international student’s home country (e.g., Ministry of Education), degree-granting post-secondary institution are completed with a verifiable grade of “B-” or better.

Transient Credit Work

Students desiring to take courses at other institutions must receive prior approval from the graduate program director. Transient credit will be examined to ensure that it is not a duplication of work already completed and that it is appropriate to the graduate program in which the student is enrolled.

Transient approval forms may be obtained from and submitted to the appropriate graduate program director. The transient approval form will be reviewed by the appropriate graduate program director and then forwarded to the Office of the Registrar.

Non-degree Credit

The University of Findlay also offers graduate-level programs, certificates, courses, workshops and seminars for professional development. Applicants may enroll if they have earned a bachelor’s degree. An official transcript of all college-level work should be submitted prior to enrollment in courses. (Students taking workshops are not required to submit official transcripts.)

Non-credit Course Work

The University of Findlay offers the opportunity for non-credit work in courses, seminars and workshops. Prerequisites must be met for all courses. Approval may be required by the program director in the program area in which the course is offered.

Prerequisite Courses

All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of at least a “C.”

Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement Examinations of the College Entrance Examination Board are not required for admission, but it is possible to receive advanced standing and/or college credit by submitting the results of the Advanced Placement Examination. Credit and/or waiver may be given for grades of three or better upon evaluation by the appropriate college dean. In the case where Advanced Placement credit is needed to verify the completion of a graduate program prerequisite, it will be acceptable for a prior institution’s official transcript to be utilized to verify the completion of the Advanced Placement credit. The official transcript must clearly identify the graduate program prerequisite with the associated credit hours assigned by the accepting institution. If the official transcript only indicates a general listing of accepted Advanced Placement credit, an official score report from the College Entrance Examination Board will be required.
