PHAR 412 Selected Topics in Self-Care

This course will prepare students to manage self-care therapies in patients in the community setting. This will include nonprescription medications, complementary and alternative therapies, non-pharmacologic treatments, diagnostic tests, and medical devices. Through various teaching methods and activities, students will learn how to assess a patient's health status, determine whether self-care is appropriate, and recommend appropriate self-care measures to the patient. Students will also counsel on the proper use of the therapy or device. Topics will vary and may be a continuation of material covered in PHAR 360 or may be new.
