EDSP 660 Contemporary Practices in P12 School Counseling

This course introduces students to current issues, trends and practices in professional P12 school counseling. Topics include but are not limited to the role of the school counselor within the school setting, school counselor ethics, instructional design and delivery of the counseling curriculum, collaboration with educational colleagues, administrators, parents and community agencies, and other practices specific to each level of school counseling such as scheduling, testing, scholarships and financial aid, counseling of student athletes, and special education and intervention processes. Time will also be devoted to developing an understanding of Ohio’s College Credit Plus processes and procedures. For current school counselors, this course reinforces knowledge and skills for effective professional practice at all levels of P12 education. For students who are not school counselors, this course will give insight into the role school counselors play within P12 schools.
