Student Eligibility Requirements

Students must meet several criteria to be considered eligible applicants for federal student aid:

  • Valid Social Security Number;
  • Hold a high school diploma, diploma equivalent (e.g., GED), or completed home schooling at the secondary level;
  • Enrolled in an approved certificate program or degree granting program of study;
  • US citizen or eligible non-citizen;
  • Passing satisfactory academic progress (SAP) guidelines;
  • Not in default on federal grants and/or loans;
  • Registered with the US Selective Service, if required;
  • Enrolled at least half-time for loan eligibility; and
  • Certify that financial aid funds will be used only for educational purposes.

Students convicted for the sale or possession of illegal drugs for an offense that occurred while receiving federal student aid may be ineligible for federal student aid.
