BIOL 250 The Art of Microscopy

This course is designed to introduce students to current technological practices and scientific advancements by exposing them to various forms of microscopy. Students will gain an understanding of the different types of microscopes, microscope optics, optical imaging, and preparation techniques for the various forms of microscopy. Students will develop and augment their skills in the use of microscopes as well as learn their history and advancements to better understand their applications. Although biological tissue preparation will be a major component, this course is intended to serve a broad range of students. Microscopic techniques and their application to various disciplines and career paths will be discussed.
