EDUC 205 Teaching Mathematics for Primary Educators

This course explores the mathematical concepts essential for early childhood and elementary teaching, with a primary focus on pedagogy and effective instructional practices. Candidates will examine how children develop mathematical understanding and will learn to design lessons that balance conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and application. Aligned with Ohio’s Plan for K–12 Mathematics and the Ohio Learning Standards, this course emphasizes evidence-based strategies, effective use of representations and tools, and fostering positive mathematical identities in young learners.
