PHAR 425 Introduction to Infectious Disease
Infectious disease and its treatment are critical components of modern medicine. Many drugs are available to treat numerous infections. It is challenging to develop mastery of anti-infective agents, their safe and appropriate use, and a working knowledge of the risks associated with their use. Likewise, it is equally challenging to master the numerous classes of infective organisms seen in contemporary pharmacy practice. This course serves as a bridge between an introductory microbiology course and high-level pharmacotherapy typical in a PharmD curriculum. The course is intended to enhance the preparation of PharmD students for subsequent study in infectious disease with emphasis on medical microbiology, anti-infective drug classes and mechanisms as well as risks associated with use of various classes of anti-infectives.
